Teacher Charged For Trading Good Grades For Sex Acts With Students
A teacher at Brooklyn Tech High School is accused of awarding female students with good grades if they engaged in sexual acts with him.
The New York Post reports that police claim 44-year-old Sean Shaynak of Flatbush had sexual relationships with at least seven underage girls, some of which included out-of-state trips and illegal substances.
Brooklyn prosecutor Joseph Mancino told the Post that Shaynak “would routinely give [one teen] 100s in his class even though she turned in work with no answers.”
The math and science teacher was also the head of the prestigious school’s Aerospace Club, a place he seemed to use to progress inappropriate relationships
A 16-year-old male club member said,
He’d always have students come visit him, kids that were not in the club, mostly very good-looking girls, the best-looking girls in our school.
Shaynak was arrested in August when a female student claimed he sent her a picture of his genitals.
This prompted an investigation into his computers and phones, on which authorities uncovered thousands of images, messages and videos confirming he had been sexually involved with girls as young as 13.
He didn’t have sex with anyone under 17, authorities said, to avoid being charged for statutory rape.
Two students, ages 18 and 19, are so far the only ones who have been discovered to have had consensual sex with Shaynak.
Mancino told the Post that Shaynak once brought a student to a sex club in another state, “where he performed sex acts on other people and other people performed sex acts on him.”
Some of the recovered texts feature Shaynak trying to convince a 15-year-old student to have a lesbian relationship with another student.
In addition to sexual abuse, criminal sex acts and forcible touching, the charges brought against Shaynak include kidnapping and unlawful imprisonment.
He entered a not-guilty plea, he’s being held on a $1 million bail.
